lagos state local government electionDespite voter apathy, a large turnout was on Saturday recorded in Mile 12 and Ketu areas of Lagos State as Lagosians filed out to cast their votes to elect chairmen and councillors who would be in charge of local government administration in all the 20 Local Governments (LGs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state in the next four years.

Despite the downpour that was recorded in the state even as of press time, voters in those areas of the state came out in their numbers to exercise their voting right, even though voting materials and officials in charge of the exercise arrived at some of the centres a bit behind schedule.

The voters were seen queuing up in orderly manner, trying to do both accreditation and voting with electoral officials diligently attending to them, while security personnel were also on standby to attend to any untoward development.

Along Lagos-Ikorodu Road, our correspondents could see some energetic youths converting the multi-billion naira expressway to a football field in about three instances, as they took advantage of the near absence of traffic on the route due to the restriction order placed on movements by the Lagos State government.

It would be recalled that the state government had initially ordered restriction of movements between 8am and 2pm, which it later extended to cover 7am and 3pm.
