LG elections: Lagos govt announces restriction of movement

As Lagosians go to poll to elect their representatives in all the 20 Local Governments (LGs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state in the council elections holding this Saturday, Lagos State government has announced restriction of movement between the hours of 8 a.m and 3 p.m.

The State Commissioner for Information, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, made this known, on Thursday, in a release titled: “LG/LCDA Elections: Restriction of movement,” declaring that the restriction would be across the entire state.

According to Omotoso, the restriction is to enable the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to conduct hitch-free elections into positions of chairmen and councillors in all the 57 LGs and LCDAs, positing that the restriction would facilitate the ease of movement of the electorate, election materials and LASIEC officials for the sanctity of the election, effective monitoring and enhanced security.

“The restriction is to enable the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to conduct hitch-free elections into positions of Chairmen and Councillors in all the 57 Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas.

“The restriction will facilitate the ease of movement of the electorate, election materials and LASIEC officials for the sanctity of the election, effective monitoring and enhanced security,” the commissioner said.

Omotoso, therefore, urged all eligible voters to participate in the elections, which he said required the cooperation of all residents.
