The Lagos Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kehinde Ganiyu Hamzat, has said his Command confiscated 3,448 driver’s licences between January and September this year, as part of efforts at ensuring sanity on the nation’s roads.
Hamzat, who was represented by the Deputy Corps Commander Lagos FRSC, Edith Eloka, disclosed this in Lagos, while flagging off the Ember Month Don’t Drink and Drive campaign, in collaboration with Pernod Ricard.
He added that while 298 road crashes were recorded during the period under review, about 1,388 drivers were booked for overloading during the period.
The FRSC Lagos Sector Command boss explained that the ember month campaign had become a yearly tradition, through which the FRSC intensifies its advocacy and public awareness on the need for safe road use.
Hamzat described the agency’s collaboration with Pernod Ricard as one of its actionable plans towards achieving its safety campaign plans for the ember month.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director, Pernod Ricard, Michael Ehindero, described the partnership as designed to drive down the high casualties, usually recorded year-on-year, through road mishaps.
“The event is to bring to the fore the causes of road mishaps, raise awareness of the implications for us all, while also providing solutions,” he added.
Ehindero also noted that though the company’s business is rooted in conviviality, it is also on a self-imposed task of ensuring the protection of lives on the nation’s roads.
