Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) has said it has dissociated itself from allegations of certificate forgery levelled against some of its candidates in the local government election scheduled to hold in July, saying it has nothing to do with the integrity of the party.
Lagos APC, since its last primary elections which were shrouded in controversies, has been inundated with allegations by members on the presentation of fake certificates by some of the party’s candidates in the next month’s local government elections.
Spokesman of the party, Hon Seye Oladejo in a chat with Tribune Online said any candidate that is enmeshed in the presentation of fake or forged certificates has that to contend with as it has nothing to do with the integrity or acceptance of the party.
According to him, for any candidate that is found not to possess the requisite requirement, the party will replace such candidate with someone next during the primaries.
While dismissing the allegation as a routine political issue, he stated, “It will be resolved by the party. It is not really something the party is jittery over. It also shows that Lagos APC is thorough in its screening process to have discovered these anomalies. So, it’s not a big deal.
“However, this will in no way affect our chances at the polls. The people are voting for the party. The party owns the ticket. Let me also say that the performance of stakeholders in the state especially Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will speak for us at the poll. There is a general consensus that he has done well, so the people will also want to show support by voting for the party.
“So any candidate that is having issues, I will want to narrow it to his/her personal problem. It has nothing to do with the integrity or acceptance of our party.”
Reacting to the statement by the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party mandating leaders and members to ensure victory for the party in the forthcoming local council poll, he said, “Let them put their house in order before any talk about winning the council polls.
“Lagos PDP is a party that has two Chairmen, two publicity secretaries and two secretaries along the line. If they are ready to come back together, we can start talking. They don’t have a chance of winning and they know that but they will naturally not want to admit that. There State Chairman recently said they are not looking forward to getting any vote at the poll. APC will win. Take my words for it.”
