ABOUT 500,000 children in various communities across the 20 local government areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos State are set to benefit from a de-worming exercise to be carried out in the state.
The de-worming exercise, according to the initiator, Honourable Bisi Yusuff, is a continuation of the last year where thousands of children were de-wormed across various communities in the state.
The lawmaker and the Lagos State Ministry of Health which will carry out the de-worming noted that the exercise would, among other things, combat worm menace among children in Lagos.
Yusuff, representing Alimosho I, in the Lagos State House of Assembly made the donation of the drugs named Albendazole and numbering 1,200,000 doses through the Prince of Hope Foundation (PHF) in conjunction with Vitamin Angels, USA.
When presenting the drugs to the Lagos State government through the state Ministry of Health,
Honourable Yusuff, who is the president of the foundation, said the move would help complement government’s efforts in delivering good health services to residents.
“I donated 1,000,000 of this de-worming drugs and tablets last year and I am donating 1,200,000 this year to further aid healthcare delivery in Lagos State.
“As I promised last year, the gesture will continue every year as we are committed to adding value to lives of children in the state.”
“I am doing it to the people of Lagos State and my foundation will continue to render help to the people,
especially the downtrodden. This, no doubt, will benefit them,” he said.
The lawmaker said that the foundation would continue to collaborate with other donor agencies so that healthcare delivery would not be left in the hands of the executive arm alone.
In his remark, the state Commissioner for Health, Mr Jide Idris, commended the lawmaker and the
foundation for supporting the efforts of the state government to improve healthcare services in the
state.
He said: “Honourable Bisi Yusuff had been a wonderful person whose actions and activities have
shown his commitment to people and their needs.
“Let me say that as much as the government is trying, many other people are working to complement the efforts of government. We assure you that what is given us will be used to the best of our ability,” he added.
