The Senator Nenadi Usman-led leadership of the Labour Party (LP) has alerted the public to a fake X (formerly Twitter) account purporting to represent the party, warning Nigerians to disregard information emanating from the handle.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday by Ken Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser on Media to the Interim National Chairman, the party identified the fraudulent account as operating under the name “Nigeria Labour Party (LP)” with the handle @NewsLp26689.

The party clarified that the handle is a “parody” and has no authorisation from the current leadership to disseminate information on its behalf.

The disclaimer comes amidst the ongoing leadership transition within the party.

Following a recent Federal High Court judgment affirming Senator Nenadi Usman’s leadership of the Caretaker Committee, the party revealed it is currently unable to access its official social media channels.

According to Asogwa, the party has formally written to the “erstwhile leadership” to hand over login details for the official accounts, which include: Facebook: Labour Party-Nig (approximately 12,000 followers) and X (Twitter): @LabourPartyNG (approximately 839,000 followers).

“The party remains hopeful that this process will be concluded peacefully and without rancour,” Asogwa stated.

“Once the accounts are fully retrieved or restored, the general public will be duly informed.”

Pending the recovery of these accounts, the Labour Party emphasised that it does not currently operate any active Facebook or X account.

“In the interim, all official communications are conveyed strictly through duly approved press statements issued from the Office of the Interim National Chairman,” the statement read.

The leadership expressed gratitude to stakeholders and the media for their continued interest in the party’s activities while urging vigilance against misinformation from unauthorised sources.
