THE Kwara State governor, Alhaji Abdul-Rahman Abdul-Razaq, has been commended for tailoring his education programmes towards the development of the people of the state.
The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWG), which gave the commendation, described the recent scholarship of N100,000 to graduates of Law who have passed through the Nigerian Law School as another plus for Abdul Rahman’s administration.
The commendations came in a statement by MMWG’s national coordinator, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, where the group said it had watched “with interest”, the effort of the Kwara State government in repositioning education in the state.
“So far, the state government has cleared arrears of unpaid salaries in tertiary institutions in the state and has since assumption of office been paying salaries of all staff in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions promptly and regularly.
“The government has also started raising the standard of infrastructure that would make learning conducive for students and teachers, in addition to payment of outstanding counterpart funding to Universal Basic Education Commission,” it said.
The group also described as a welcome development a recent announcement of the state government that morning devotion in all primary and secondary schools in the state should be done individually and silently.
“Recent happenings in our schools that necessitated this order called for worry and serious concern. It should be noted that parents, guardians and their children must have prayed at home each day they wake up before students come to the school, while students living in the schools must have done same through the guidance of the school authorities in their various mosques and chapels,” the group said.
