Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has promised to ensure fairness among party members in the forthcoming ward congresses in the 16 local government areas of the state.
Speaking when he received ter national executives for the conduct of the exercise in Ilorin on Tuesday, the chairman, state caretaker committee, Alhaji Abdullahi Samari, said that the exercise scheduled for July 31, 2021, followed the directive of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the party under the leadership of Alhaji Mai Mala Buni, Governor of Yobe State.
Samari, who said that members of the Ward Congress Committee, as appointed by the CECPC are already in the state to carry out their assignment, added that the committee has issued a guideline for the Conduct of the Congresses, which he said would be strictly enforced to ensure fair participation by all members who can vote and be voted for.
The party chairman said that security arrangements had been made to ensure peaceful exercise, while he appealed to all members of the party to eschew bitterness to achieve peaceful conduct of the exercise.
He also advised all interested contestants to purchase forms from the state party secretariat henceforth.
“The Committee, in a bid to ensure open, credible and fair Congresses that reflect, the sanctity of Internal Democracy in the Party, has issued a guideline for the Conduct of the Congresses of the Party in the States. This guideline will be strictly enforced in the State to ensure fair Participation by all members who can vote and be voted for.
“It is pertinent to, therefore, let members know that the ward congress slated for 31st July 2021 will definitely hold in Kwara State with strict compliance with the Congress Guideline that will be made available to all the Party Members through the State and Local Government Party Secretariat.
“The Ward Congress Committee, as appointed by the Caretakers/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee are already in the state to carry out their assignment in line with the guidelines.
“To ensure fairness and good participation, seven members committee are drawn from other states of the federation. The committee has a chairman, secretary and five other members to carry out this exercise in the State.
“All interested contestants are advised to purchase forms from the state party secretariat henceforth.
“Finally I want to appeal to all members of the party to eschew bitterness and ensure peaceful conduct of the exercise.”
