African Church, Christ Cathedral, Ogidiri, Offa, Kwara State has marked the consecration of its new bishop, the Right Reverend Adeyemi Olaniyi, with a special thanksgiving.
In his sermon, a retired cleric of the African Church, Venerable Isaac Oluwasegun Adeleke, charged the new bishop to regard his new position as an act of God.
The cleric, who charged him to live up to expectation in order to justify his new status, advised the new bishop to beware of sycophants.
Venerable Adeleke also advised Bishop Olaniyi to live by example in the discharge of his responsibilities, saying that all eyes are on him.
Venerable Adeleke, who thanked God that the new Bishop’s dream has materialised despite all obstacles, charged him to administer with the constitution of the African Church.
He said the new bishop should run an open door administration, consult other junior ministers in his diocese always and that he should not be in a haste to take action on the Diocesan affairs.
The religious leader also charged the new Bishop not to discriminate but to be compassionate, accommodating, tolerant, accessible, patient, honest, and humble, listen to and respect the laity members of his Diocese and always work for the peace, unity and development of his Diocese.
In his response, the new Bishop, the Right Reverend Adeyemi Olaniyi, expressed delight on his new status and also appreciated all individuals and groups who contributed to the realisation of his dream, just as he pledged to live up to expectation in the discharge of his new assignment.
