Kogi is committed to inter-religious peace ―Govt

 

THE Kogi State government has expressed its readiness to continue to invest in efforts at bringing lasting peace to the state, saying it would ensure inter-religious harmony across the state

 

The Chief of Staff to the state governor, Edward Onoja, made the remarks at Ibado-Akpacha, Omala local government area of the state, during the inspection of the newly completed Church and Mosque for Christians and Muslims built by the administrator of the council, Ibrahim Aboh.

According to him, the state had witnessed religious harmony under the present administration in the state, adding that the move by the local government was a conscious effort to sustain it.

While describing peace as a panacea to sustained development, the COS vowed not to spare efforts at inter-religious harmony, assuring adherents of the faiths of equal platforms, opportunities and enabling a secure environment that would enable them to practice their faiths unhindered, without fear and molestation.

Onoja, however, urged the Christians and Muslims in the state to be tolerant of each other, remain loving of one another and show understanding as those are factors that breed peaceful coexistence.

He, however, described the mammoth crowd that graced the occasion as a sign that the administrator has remained a rallying point for people of various divides in the local government.

The local government administrator said he embarked on the construction of the Church and Mosque to unify the adherents of major religion.

Aboh disclosed that his administration saw the need to key into the efforts of Governor Yahaya Bello in inter-religious harmony, commending the state government administration over its peace and security policies that had made the state conducive for living.
