The Deputy Governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the November 11 Governorship election in Kogi State, Dr Idris Omede, declared on Monday the commitment of the ADC’s gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Leke Abejide, to ending the perennial water floods ravaging Ibaji Local Government Area and other flood-ravaged communities in Kogi East Senatorial District.
Dr Omede made this declaration during a courtesy call on Royal Fathers in the Idah federal constituency in Idah.
Ibaji Local Government Area and significant parts of Kogi East Senatorial District were completely submerged by the deadly flood of 2022.
Dr Idris Omede, who received a warm welcome from crowds in Idah, engaged in a cordial interaction with Traditional Rulers and stakeholders from the Igala Kingdom. During this meeting, he discussed various issues related to the development of the Igala Nation.
According to Dr. Omede, the Ibaji people occupy a strategic position in the state, and as such, they deserve a better place in the state’s development.
Dr. Idris Omede stated, “Once we come onboard, our administration will address all flood-ravaged areas in the state by consciously responding to all the identified places affected in the state.”
He assured residents of flood-prone areas that they would implement planned actions to put an end to the natural disaster that results in loss of life and renders many people homeless.
Dr Omede expressed his lamentation that the state has suffered unduly despite receiving resources from the federation specially earmarked for addressing these issues, yet the affected areas have been allowed to suffer from annual flooding.
The Deputy Governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress further called on the people of the state to conduct background checks on all those aspiring to lead the state in the upcoming election to ensure that the state does not fall into the wrong hands and continues to experience self-inflicted pain.
Omede noted that Kogi State, as an oil-producing state, deserves a higher living standard instead of the suffering it has endured over the past seven years.
Speaking at the occasion, the state chairman of the ADC in the state, Hon. John Adaji, assured the people that his party’s programs would have a human face and would implement initiatives that positively impact every sector of the economy. He mentioned that the party would release its manifestos once elected into office by the electorate.
