Kogi State Party Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Hon. Abdullahi Bello has debunked rumours making the rounds that the party has endorsed or imposed any candidate on party stakeholders across different elective offices in the forthcoming general elections.
Hon. Abdullahi stated this to newsmen on Wednesday while clearing the air that there was no anointed candidate for any elective office in the next general elections.
He noted that there will be a level playing ground for every eligible member of the party who wishes to contest for any position.
“The All Progressive Congress (APC) is a political party anchored on progressivism philosophy, it is a party with a hallmark of internal democracy, a party of equal opportunity, the playing field is levelled for all; the rules will be applied equally, no one will be favoured nor will anyone be disadvantaged, the party has no preferred candidate for any office whatsoever.
“It is the tradition of our party to encourage consensus candidate among the aspirants themselves where practicable, this is to minimize misgivings, but the party will never impose any candidate for any elective office,” he affirmed.
Hon. Bello also maintained that candidates would emerge from the process approved by the constitution of the party and the electoral law, noting that the law was clear on the mode of primaries for political parties to choose their candidates for the elections which include direct, indirect and consensus.
The Chairman further congratulated the party faithful for the successful conduct of the national convention which he stressed demonstrated the party’s resolve to forge a united and strong front.
He appreciated the goodwill and show of love to Governor Yahaya Bello on his presidential declaration, affirming that hope has come for Nigerians.
