Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has described Kebbi State as having the potential to become the Cultural hub of Africa if all the cultural endowments the state possesses can be fully tapped and harnessed.
Lai Mohammed while addressing a press conference at the Government House in Birnin-Kebbi to kick start the 44th Edition of the World Tourism Day Celebration which took place Monday in Birnin-Kebbi, the state capital.
He stated that the essence of tourism is to bring it to the fore burner which will invariably be transformed into economic empowerment which will in no doubt reduce poverty to its barely minimum.
He stated further that, no better place to host the festival than Kebbi State, adding that the famous Arugungu Fishing and Cultural Festival is one of the world’s fuve recognized cultural festivals by UNESCO.
The minister expressed that it gladden the mind to hear that each of the four Emirates that makes up Kebbi State has its unique festivals they celebrate annually such as the Huttungo festival among the Fulanis in Gwandu Emirate, Kebbi State, the Boat Regatta among the people of Yelwa (Yauri) Yauri Emirate, Uhola Festival in Zuru Emirate and the popular Fishing Festival of Argungu Emirate.
He, therefore, called on the Federal government to assist Kebbi State to make it a Tourism hub of Africa, adding that there is also the need to pass the rich culture of the State to the younger generation.
The minister also recalled that the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the Tourism sector more than any other sector across the world, therefore calling on developed countries of the world to make enough vaccines available to developing countries.
