Alhaji Adam Ballo, in a lecture titled ‘Who is a Successful Muslim?’ urged Muslims to seek the afterworld rather than dwell on worldly things because a Muslim who is deemed to be successful is one who is blessed on earth and the hereafter.
“Two criteria for being referred to as a successful Muslim is having the fear of Allah and following His directives by doing good deeds and avoiding prohibited acts such as lying, backbiting and hypocrisy. When you fear Allah, He would open ways for you, make you happy and protect you from sadness.
“There are seven deadly sins that any Muslim who wants to be successful needs to avoid. These include worshiping another being apart from Allah, believing in magic, murder, collecting interest (usury) on loans, usurping orphans’ possessions, running away from the cause of Allah and testifying wrongly or saying untrue things about a person,” Ballo said.
