Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen, on Wednesday, killed three policemen attached to the Divisional Police Headquarters, in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State.
The incident reportedly happened around 7:40 a.m at a checkpoint mounted by the late officers along the Obeti/Oliogo Road in the local government.
The patrol van of the cops, a Toyota Sienna, which was recently donated to the Umutu Police Division, was razed down.
Unconfirmed reports said the three cops, who were in the space bus at the time it was set ablaze, were burnt beyond recognition.
Acting Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, has confirmed the incident, saying CP Ari Mohammed Ali, who himself visited the scene of the incident, has directed all Tactical Teams to the area to comb the bushes in order to bring them to book.
Meanwhile, sequel to the murder case under investigation in the Command where a Prince of Orhuwhorun, Prince Eric Takerere and two mobile policemen were murdered and their rifles carted away as well as the attempted murder of Prince Franklyn Takerere, police operatives have arrested six more suspects.
PPRO Edafe, in a statement on Wednesday, said on September 6, police operatives from the Delta State Anti-kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad (SAKCCS) were led by Godspower Agabarhayowe alias GANAGANA aged, 27 and Tony Edwin also 27 who were earlier arrested on 09/07/2021 in connection with the murder, to the hideout of the six suspects in Udu, Warri and Aladja area.
Arrested at the hideout were the six suspects namely: Onoriode Shefo alias Chikago, 36, Omagbeosa Sholla, 30Y, Godwin Obukoemu alias Million, 30, Ejime Mugagbam, 34, Ejiroghenen Nushe, 24, and Egho Monday, 28.
According to DSP Edafe, the sextet had confessed to being involved in the murder of Prince Eric Takerere and his two mobile policemen.
“They also led the operatives to their armoury where two AK47 rifles, one pump action gun, one locally-made pistol, four magazines, 76 rounds of live ammunition and 38 rounds of live cartridges were recovered,” he said.
