JUST IN: Gunmen kidnap district head in Niger, govt begins rescue operation

The District head of Wawa community in Borgu Kingdom, Borgu local government area of Niger State, Dr. Mahmud Ahmed Aliyu was at about 9:30 pm on Saturday abducted by some gunmen suspected to be armed bandits in his palace.

The gunmen, were said to have stormed his palace in large numbers, wielding dangerous weapons like guns and cutlasses and went straight to his apartment where he has already retiring for sleep after attending to his subjects.

Tribune Online gathered that the gunmen whisked away the embattled monarch to a yet- to-be ascertained hideout.

Abduction of Dr. Mahmud Ahmed Aliyu, the Dodo of Wawa community in Niger state has thrown his subjects into a state of confusion and uncertainty considering the ways bandits now operate in the area bordering neighbouring Benin republic.

Meanwhile, the palace of Dodo of Wawa is about 12kilometers to new Bussa where the Nigerian Army barracks is situated.

Secretary to the Niger State Government Ahmed Ibrahim Matane confirmed the incident to the newsmen on Sunday in an interview by telephone in Minna, the state capital.

The SSG, who maintained that Niger State government is not resting on its oars, however,  added that combined security agencies and members of vigilante groups have been drafted to rescue the Dodo of Wawa unharmed from his abductors.

As of the time of filing this report on Sunday in Minna, the state capital, no call, nor any ransom demand had been made from his abductors.
