In view of the recent crisis in some parts of Jos, Plateau state, the Oyo state government has evacuated no fewer than 80 indigenes of the state schooling in the University of Jos.
This came to the fore when the evacuees, loaded in two mass transit buses, were brought to the governor’s office, state Secretariat, Ibadan, on Tuesday.
The evacuees were received by Chief of Staff to the Oyo state governor, Mr Segun Ogunwuyi and Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Affairs, Mr Victor Olojede.
Welcoming the indigenes, Ogunwuyi said the evacuation showed the responsiveness of the state government to the welfare and affairs of its indigenes both within and outside the state.
Olojede, who said the state government evacuated over 80 Oyo indigenes schooling in UNIJOS, urged the federal government to promote the unity of the country and attend to the lingering Jos Crisis.
Speaking on behalf of the students, the President, National Oduduwa Students Association, University of Jos chapter, Kolawole Adewole appreciated the Governor Seyi Makinde government for coming to rescue the students who typically are victims of such crisis.
Asked if there had been any Yoruba casualty, Adewole said he was not aware anyone of Yoruba origin had died as a result of the crisis.
