Jigawa Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has commissioned one of the 48 newly constructed rural roads executed by his administration in 2024, bringing the total road infrastructure delivered in two years to 977 kilometres.

Speaking at the commissioning of the 13.5-kilometre Sada–Danakari–Unguwar Malam Kuda–Magina feeder road in Yankwashi Local Government Area, the governor revealed that his administration committed N304 billion to road development from 2024 to date.

“As a government, we will continue to provide road infrastructure to our rural communities to ensure easy access to markets and major towns,” Namadi said.

He noted that the completed road—constructed for N1.69 billion—will significantly boost agricultural activities by linking several farming communities that have long sought improved access routes.

“These communities are predominantly agrarian, and this road will help them convey their produce to nearby markets. Most of the 48 roads are already near completion, and we will soon begin a series of commissioning exercises,” he added.

The governor congratulated the benefiting communities and the contractors for delivering the project on schedule, urging residents to protect the infrastructure from vandalism and misuse.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr. Gambo Malam described the project as part of the 48 rural roads—covering 977 kilometres—awarded in 2024 under the state’s aggressive infrastructure rollout.

“This road has been the long-standing request of the communities, and through the commitment of Governor Namadi, it has now become a reality,” the commissioner said, adding that the road will enhance ease of doing business in the area.

Residents who spoke to reporters, including Abdullahi Musa and Muhammad Gata, commended the state government for the intervention. Musa appealed for the road to be tarred, while Gata said the communities also urgently need a water supply.

Governor Namadi’s visit to Yankwashi was part of the state government’s weekly citizens-engagement programme, “Gwamnati da Jama’a” (Government and the People), which began in February 2025 and covered all 27 LGAs of the state.

According to the governor, the initiative was designed to strengthen accountability, deepen grassroots participation, and gather public input for future budgets.

“It gives us the opportunity to tell the people what we have done so far and to listen to their feedback. True governance is about service to the people, and we are submitting ourselves for assessment so we can improve where necessary,” Namadi said.
