Insecurity: We won’t succumb to defeat — IGP

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has condemned the activities of bandits and lamented the death of three police officers in Zamfara State, stressing that no one can kill a security operative and go unpunished, as the police will not succumb to defeat.

IGP Disu made this known on Tuesday evening in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, while condoling with the families of the three police officers who died following the explosion of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by bandits in the state.

He described the deaths of the officers as a major loss and a huge blow to the Nigeria Police Force, the state and the nation.

“Even members of sister security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigeria Immigration Service, have testified that the deceased officers were of great assistance to them, highly cooperative and true team players.

“The death of these officers is a great loss to all of us. The police are deeply saddened by their demise,” he said.

The IGP further stated: “I have come to see the families of the deceased and other members of the Nigeria Police Force in the state to assure them that we will not succumb to defeat. We will go after the perpetrators and take the battle to them. Nobody will kill a police officer or any security personnel and go free.”

He assured the families of the deceased officers that their children would be adequately cared for and would not be abandoned.

IGP Disu also appreciated the support of the Zamfara State Governor, particularly for the assistance and construction of buildings for the police in the state.

Those involved in the tragic incident were the Officer Commanding (OC), Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, SP Abdulrazak Musa, Inspector Auwal Ahmad and Inspector Murtala Musa, who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty when an IED exploded along the Anka–Bagega Road in the state.
