Anglican Diocese of Offa, Anglican Communion, Kwara State, Church 2, Nigeria has decried the state of insecurity of lives and property, kidnapping, banditry and acts of herdsmen in most parts of the country.
The church, therefore, called on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency, do all in its power to protect every part of the country, saying that perpetrators of all forms of evil acts must be brought to book no matter their religion, tribe or status.
In a communique issued at the end of the first session of the three-day eighth synod of the diocese held at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Ira Road, Offa at the weekend, presided over by the Lord Bishop of Anglican Diocese of Offa, the Right Rev. Dr. Olusola Akanbi, the church also noted with pain the high cost of living.
“Prices of commodities and food items are skyrocketing on daily basis. We call on governments at all levels to rise to the occasion of providing welfare and palliative for their citizenry as it is done in advanced countries of the world.
The Synod, themed, “Lord, teach us how to pray”, also advised the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, to in the interest of peace, stability and harmony return the school uniform to what it used to be and fast track the process of returning the school missions to their owners.
The synod observed that one of the cardinal aims and objectives of the church is to assist in the care and welfare of the people particularly the needy, the poor and the aged calling on churches in the country to have welfare committees and budgets for this purpose annually.
The synod also decried the financial state of our country which it said is not palatable resorting to the high standard of living and economic recession. It therefore advised churches to be prudent in spending and be proactive in their financial stewardship.
On christian and politics, the synod encouraged church members to take an active part in politics, shinning the light of the Gospel of Christ and also maximize the opportunity of the on-going registration of voters, obtain their permanent voters card to enable them to vote for the right candidates in the future elections.
The synod noted that youths are the posterity of the church and in order to have a formidable church tomorrow, our youths must be instilled to our vibrant heritage and tradition directing that our youths must take active roles in all our church activities and as well have a Sunday in a month when they shall be guided to conduct the service.
The synod concluded that as the political and religious climate in the country is extensively unfavourable, the synod admonished all Nigerians to pray and watch and be fervent in the spirit of serving the Lord, have faith in God, try to confess their sins and forgive others and as well, be bold and always give thanks to God.
