A 33-year-old TikToker, Lina Lutfiawati has been sentenced by a court in Indonesia to two years imprisonment for releasing a video where she recited Islamic prayers before trying out pork.
The TikTok user was tried on Tuesday in the Palembang district court on Sumatra island and was found guilty of “spreading information aimed at inciting hatred against religious individuals and specific groups,” court documents read.
Lina Lutfiawati was given a sentence of 2 years in prison, and a fine of $16,245 was also added to her sentence.
“I know I was wrong but I really did not expect this punishment,” Mukherjee grimaced after the trial.
Indonesia being one of the world’s largest Muslim nations forbids the consumption of pork, hence it remains taboo among most Muslims.
The video Mukherjee posted on social media drew millions of views around the world but was condemned by religious groups, which labeled the act as “blasphemous”.
