THE Independent Hajj Reporters (IHR) will hold its annual public lecture and awards ceremony on Wednesday, 4 September, 2024, at the auditorium of the National Mosque, Abuja.
The organisation has held the event for 15 years after every hajj operation.
A statement signed by the national coordinator of the group, Ibrahim Mohammed, said the event, which would start at 10am, would have Vice President Kashim Shettima as the special guest of honour and the national leader of Jamaatu Izalatul bidiah wa ikamatis Sunnah, Sheikh Abdullahi Bala Lau, as chairman.
The guests of honour, the statement added, are the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr Mariya Mahmood Bunkure and the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Nigeria, Faisal Al Ibraheem Al-Ghamdi. The chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) is the chief host.
According to the statement, hghlights of the event, where states, service providers and some officials will be given awards for their exemplary performance during 2024 hajj, include a public lecture titled ‘Strategic Time Management for Effective Hajj 2025’ to be delivered by the deputy rector of the Hajj Institute of Nigeria, Abuja, Professor Wasiu Gabadeen..
“The IHR instituted these awards about 15 years ago to honour those who stood out in the service of pilgrims during a preceding hajj operation.

“The goal is to encourage them to continue to do more and motivate others to give their best,” the statement said.
It said the title of this year’s lecture was chosen to emphasise the importance of respecting the calendar of 2025 hajj and to highlight the risks associated with acting otherwise.
“Most of the issues and challenges faced during this year’s hajj was as a result of the failure to do the right thing at the right time which eventually took its toll on the operations,” the statement noted.
