Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State on Tuesday said the creation of Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in the state is being hindered by lack of funds.
Akeredolu who made this known while playing host to the Jegun of Ile-Oluji, Oba Julius Oluwole Olufaderin Adetimehin, and his chiefs who pay him a courtesy visit in his office, reassured the people of the state of his determination to create LDCA in the state.
He specifically assured the people of Ile-Oluji that the state government will create an LCDA for the people of the area, saying it is odd that the town was merged with Oke-Igbo as one local government area.
According to the governor, the creation of LCDAs would have been done but for the lack of funds which has militated against the progress made on the exercise.
He explained that the process of LCDA creation is cumbersome, but can come to reality with the availability of money to oil the system.
“In no distant future, I want to give you an assurance that Ile-Oluji will become a Local Government Area on its own. I have said it before, you can see the oddity in putting Ile-Oluji with Oke-Igbo. We are working on it. There are too many.
“One of the issues dragging us back is finance. The process is cumbersome but it is one that only availability of money can oil. We will need to put up a council secretariat for the people.
“In your own case, the local government headquarters is in Ile-Oluji. Oke-Igbo will have to put up a council secretariat, and all of these require money,” Akeredolu said.
The governor also said the economic reality in the country is responsible for the modulated salary of workers in thr state, saying, “If we tell you we have money, we are lying. We came here, boasting that we won’t owe salary. We weren’t owing. We were even paying arrears. But now, it is disheartening. We are owing.
“Help us continue to talk to our people, we don’t wish to owe salary. But there is no money. What we receive from FAAC is what we use to pay these salaries.”
