THE Imo State government will early next year 2017 conduct local government election for peace to reign.
The state governor, Rochas Okorocha, announced this while briefing newsmen in Owerri, the state capital, on Wednesday.
According to him, the exercise has become necessary in view of its paramount importance in democratic setup.
He pointed out that he had concluded arrangements to offset the pension arrears and salaries of November and December 2016 owed workers in the state.
He said his administration had set aside N15.5 billion to pay pensioners and workers immediately.
According to the governor, from next year 2017 the workers should choose from two options either the government paying them on every first of the month or towards the end of month.
Okorocha said that his administration had studied the salary scales of workers in the South-East and the state government would adopt it for the workers to be receiving full salary payment instead of 70 percent of their salaries.
He appealed to clergymen in the state to stop involving themselves in the politics and face religious matters for which they were ordained.
