THE Director, Primary Healthcare (PHC), Sokoto South Local Government Area, Malam Usman Guiwa, says the Council is targeting over 52,340 children in the ongoing immunisation across the state.
Guiwa, who spoke with newsmen on Saturday in Sokoto, said that the exercise was at its third day and would cover six days.
“We started the exercise on Thursday and presently we are able to vaccinate 21,229 children in the two days so far covered.
“Today is the third round, we are embarking on a house to house immunisation to ensure all children in the council receive the vaccine as planned.
“Presently, we have received 54,100 doses of the vaccine to cover our target of over 52,340 children in which more doses will be provided if we exhaust the amount,” he assured.

He noted that the exercise was going smoothly as all the local government officials, traditional leaders and scholars were present in the field to ensure no child was left out of the immunisation.
He commended the Sokoto state government and the Sultanate Council for their commitment in terms of logistics and other material support to ensure the success of the exercise.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that for ranking tops with the highest incidences of measles in the country, based on global data update, UNICEF says it is targeting over 22 million across 19 Northern States including the FCT.
According to Malami Abubakar, a Health Educator of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, at a presentation in Sokoto during a UNICEF organised meeting with Journalists on Sept. 5, children between 9-59 months are targeted during the exercise.
Abubakar said that the Sokoto state government had concluded all arrangements to vaccinate no fewer than 467,703 children in 10 out of its 23 local government areas.
He further disclosed that the last exercise suffered a minor setback in some local governments across the state, due to the insecurity situation, religious and political factors.
The 10 local governments to be covered by the immunisation includes; Sokoto South, Sokoto North, Kware, Wurno, Goronyo, Rabah, Bodinga Dange/Shuni, Gwadabawa, and Wamakko local government areas of the state.
