The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has commenced the third phase of its constituency and executive projects tracking exercise in Kano State.
However, the agency said some cases of diversion of project funds from Kiru/Bebeji and other constituencies in Kano will be thoroughly investigated.
Disclosing this, the ICPC Chief Assistant Superintendent, Kano office, Bukar Galadima stated this during an unscheduled visit by the commission on Thursday to Kiru/Bebeji Federal constituency to track distributions of over 120 motorcycles as empowerment to politicians and community members purchased by a federal lawmaker, Ali Datti Yako as constituency project in 2020.
According to him, this is part of the effort by the commission to track and investigate the processes of the constituency projects already ongoing in 17 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
He, however, disclosed that this includes the FCT, other states in the list include Katsina, Kano, Sokoto, Yobe, Adamawa, Plateau and Kogi States. Others are Benue, Ondo, Osun, Lagos, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Enugu, Edo, Anambra and Imo States.
Galadima said the constituency projects tracking exercise in Kano would focus on key sectors including agriculture, education, power, health, water resources and empowerments.
He then added that “some cases of diversion of project funds from Kiru/Bebeji constituency and other constituencies in Kano will be thoroughly investigated,” Galadima said.
The commission further disclosed the tracking exercise would also help to among others, “improve service delivery to the people, and ensure the full execution of all projects, and guarantee value for money in the implementation of the projects.”
