THE Deputy governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Moses Ekpo, has described his rumoured resignation and defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a ruse, saying such report in the social media smacks of blackmail against himself and the office.
According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr. Ekikere Umoh, the purported resignation and defection to the APC, was borne out of ill intention to smear his boss, cashing in on the already tensed political atmosphere in the State.
“There is no iota of truth in the story that is making the rounds”, Umoh explained and enjoined the public to discountenance such report.

He disclosed that the Deputy governor who had been away in the State for some days now, was currently in New York, the United States, where he is currently representing governor Udom Emmanuel, at the diaspora conference of Akwa Ibom socio-cultural organization, Ati Annang.
“I have spoken with my boss on phone today, and in his reaction, he (Deputy Governor) responded this way:
“I have not resigned, I have no reason whatsoever to resign or jump ship from a government that is so responsive and performing optimally while giving practical meaning to democratic dividends for the people of Akwa Ibom. Therefore, I will not resign or jump ship.”
The CPS, therefore, advised those who are in the habits of throwing every information into the free social media space, not to overheat the polity as the elections’ year approaches.
