Humanitarian: Rotary Governor targets $1m foundation

The new governor of Rotary International District 9125, Ayoola Oyedokun said he has set a target of $1 million contribution to the rotary as the club has already met $400,000.

Oyedokun disclosed this in his speech at his investiture ceremony as the 13th governor of the district.

Oyedokun charged Rotarians across the 23 states in the district to key into the project and make more efforts in reaching out to the less privileged.

His words: “We must ensure that diversity, equity and inclusion are sustained. We will stand by fairness, ensuring that transparency is achieved. We need to do more to change lives and improve on our membership strength which is the core objective of the rotary.”

Oyedokun further disclosed that his administration would ensure that every community across the country feels the image of the club through life changing interventions.

Oyedokun urged members of the club to be change makers in their various communities and serve humanity in new dimensions.

Oyedokun said that it was important for the members to embrace themselves in love and forge to serve humanity together.

“We need to do more and when we are talking about doing more, we need to do bigger and impactful projects.

“We need to improve on our contributions to our nation, we need to also improve on our membership strength, and we can only do that when we embrace ourselves and have in mind that we want to actually serve humanity.

“We will increase our public image, we will no longer be in the dark, we will ensure that every area that the Rotary presence is, the community feels us.

“We will ensure that we tell our stories, so that everybody will know that Rotary is doing good all around the world.

“We will let them know that we are truly serving above self and our image will definitely be improved upon.”

Oyedokun also said that the club would be building a cancer dialysis centre to ensure that people have access to treatment and diagnosis in the country.

According to him, it will be one of the club’s numerous contributions in supporting the government and meeting the needs of the less-privileged in the country.

In her good will message, Mrs Comfort Eyitayo, ICAN President and guest speaker at the occasion, charged the new district governor to be optimistic and true in the discharge of his duty.

“The role of a voluntary club like Rotary is more relevant in a country like ours where good leaders with selfless disposition and conscious commitment would have impacts on their future leaders.

“I therefore charge Mr Oyedokun to roll up his sleeves and face the challenges of leadership as you know that there will not be need for leaders if there are no identified problems,” she said.

Mrs Jumoke Bamigboye, the immediate past District Governor, District 9125, called on Rotary members in the country, not to relent in their service to humanity.

“The motto of Rotary is Service above self and when we want to start serving others without waiting for material rewards, then you are doing what Rotary is all about.

“So, I want all Rotarians to reach out to members of their communities and do what Rotary is known for.

“Render selfless service in their communities and help make life better for all of us,” she said.

The Rotary International District 9125 covers Rotary clubs in 23 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
