How Samuel Omefe led engineering operations at Lekki’s 7 Centrale, improves Nigerian structural innovation

In the heart of Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, a new architectural icon has risen — not only as a symbol of luxury but also as a monument to engineering excellence powered by Nigerian expertise. At the center of this achievement stands Samuel Omefe, the lead structural engineer behind 7 Centrale, one of the most technically sophisticated residential towers ever delivered in Nigeria’s private real estate sector.

Developed by Blue Square Limited and constructed by MC&T, 7 Centrale is an eight-storey ultra-luxury apartment tower that features panoramic floor-to-ceiling glass façades, smart-home integration, dedicated multi-level parking, and a striking indoor swimming pool on the third floor.

However, the building’s elegance is matched only by the complexity of its engineering. It was here that Samuel was entrusted with the role of lead construction engineer, taking charge of the project’s most demanding structural systems from conception through execution.

Samuel’s influence on the project began at its most critical stage — the foundation. Tasked with translating ambitious architectural designs into structurally sound realities, he led the implementation of a foundation system involving ninety-eight deep piles, each six hundred millimeters in diameter and driven twenty-seven meters below grade. His oversight ensured full geotechnical compliance and long-term stability, despite the high groundwater levels and complex subsurface conditions characteristic of coastal Lagos. His expertise was not merely technical but strategic, ensuring that the building’s base would withstand not only vertical load but lateral pressure from shifting urban soil profiles.

But it was Samuel’s command over integrated superstructure delivery that distinguished him. Rather than playing a supporting technical role, Samuel operated as a systems leader — orchestrating multi-disciplinary teams, coordinating structural sequencing, and aligning design intent with practical constructability on a daily basis. His work on the vehicular ramp system connecting two levels of suspended car parks exemplifies his contribution. With no survey team available at the time of installation, Samuel led the structural geometry from first principles, designing and executing a fully functional vehicular transition system. This element, critical for vertical circulation and spatial efficiency, was delivered under his personal supervision without the benefit of conventional layout support — a feat that senior engineers on-site described as “a turning point in the build.”

Another hallmark of his leadership was the successful integration of the indoor -floor swimming pool, an architectural centerpiece and structural challenge rarely attempted in Nigerian high-rise development. With precision, Samuel directed the design and load analysis of the pool deck, carefully managing shear reinforcement, deflection control, and vibration damping within the confined multi-residential floorplate. Waterproofing and mechanical isolation were executed under his watch, ensuring zero leakage into the residential and parking levels directly below — a failure point that has undermined similar projects in the past.

This was not just engineering management; it was risk-controlled innovation at the front line of delivery.

Senior stakeholders at MC&T consistently refer to Samuel’s work as “mission-critical.” His ability to navigate field constraints, translate complex models into buildable stages, and hold both safety and aesthetics in equilibrium earned him recognition beyond the project itself. “We did not just assign him tasks,” said a site executive. “We assigned him responsibility — for structure, for safety, and for setting a new benchmark in Nigerian engineering.”

As 7 Centrale now welcomes high-net-worth residents, Samuel’s legacy is cast in concrete and steel, in every column that rises without compromise and every space that functions exactly as intended. His work redefines what it means to be a lead engineer in Nigeria — not just a technician, but a builder of trust, integrity, and progress.

In a nation increasingly looking to domestic talent to power its infrastructure, Samuel Omefe’s performance at 7 Centrale signals a quiet but powerful shift. The future of high-rise, high-specification construction in Nigeria is no longer waiting to be imported. It is being designed and delivered by Nigerian professionals with global vision and uncompromising skill.
