As the dawn of this momentous day breaks, I’m compelled to pay tribute to the illustrious career of Honorable Abdussamad Dasuki, the esteemed Santurakin of Sokoto, and dedicated Representative of Tambuwal/Kebbe Federal Constituency in the hallowed chambers of the Nigerian House of Representatives. His impact has been nothing short of transformative and people-oriented. From education to empowerment, the youth’s representative is leaving an indelible mark on the hearts and communities of his constituency. In this year’s tribute, I will focus on the educational progress he has achieved within a single year for the good people of Kebbe and Tambuwal local governments.
First, let’s acknowledge Dasuki’s initiative in bridging educational gaps. Recognizing that education is the cornerstone of meaningful progress and development, Honorable Dasuki has been proactive in addressing pressing matters. With unwavering commitment, he ensured that 450 UTME (Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination) forms reached aspiring students across Kebbe and Tambuwal local governments. These forms represent dreams taking flight, opportunities knocking on doors, and futures shaped by knowledge. The ripple effect of this initiative will be felt for generations to come.
Dasuki’s investment in the future extends to Tambuwal and Kebbe Local Governments, where students from these areas now smile with gratitude at the prospect of higher education. At Shehu Shagari University of Education, he announced the payment of N15,000.00 Confirmation of Acceptance fees for 150 newly admitted students from his constituency. These eager minds, poised to learn and shape the future, now carry a burden lifted. Their journey begins with a sense of belonging, thanks to the foresight and compassion of the People’s representative.
James Hadley Chase once wrote that a golden fish has no hidden place. This statement aptly describes Hon. Dasuki’s brilliance, which now illuminates his entire constituency. Recently, at Sokoto State University, the Dogondaji Daji Association received more than financial aid; they received belief in their potential. His N15,000.00 scholarship disbursement to 43 students transcends mere numbers—it’s an investment in ambition, resilience, and the promise of brighter tomorrows. These scholars will carry forward the torch of excellence, knowing that someone believed in their dreams. And that someone is none other than the Santurakin Sokoto.
But that’s not all. Honorable Dasuki doesn’t merely celebrate milestones and excellence; he follows them up with gestures that convey both sympathy and encouragement. His commitment to disbursing N100,000.00 to each of the 207 indigenous university students whose CGPA exceeds 3.50 speaks volumes. These students are not mere statistics; they are the architects of progress in Kebbe and Tambuwal for generations to come. Their future achievements will undoubtedly honour his legacy and inspire others to reach for the stars.
Turning our attention to empowering women in his constituency, Hon. Dasuki has provided them with an opportunity for self-reliance through education. In Tambuwal, he ensured that the Women Centre for Continuing Education is accredited by the National Examinations Council (NECO). This achievement goes beyond bureaucratic paperwork; it’s a beacon of hope for women seeking to enhance their skills, pursue higher education, and contribute meaningfully to society. Dasuki’s tireless advocacy made this accreditation possible, empowering countless women to break barriers and redefine their destinies.
His unwavering commitment to public service has etched indelible footnotes in the hearts of Nigerians. Notably, as the Spokesman to the House of Representatives Group, he champions the cause of returning to a Parliamentary System of Government—a resonant solution amidst our current challenges. His popularity transcends mere political circles; he is the youth hero Nigerians have long dreamed of. His legislative initiatives are topnotch as their impact reverberates through the bills and motions he has sponsored and co-sponsored.
Among the bills he championed are the Armed Forces Act (Amendment) Bill, 2023 (HB 167) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps Act (Amendment) Bill, 2023 (HB 169). Additionally, he co-sponsored bills seeking to reintroduce the parliamentary system of governance, establish the Northwest Development Commission, and create the National Agency for Artisanal Refining (Establishment), Bill 2023.
His motions also reflect a keen awareness of pressing issues. Notable among them are: Waiving Airport Tollgate and Parking Fees for Military Personnel [May — 2024], Revisiting and Adopting Reports on Security [November — 2023], and Reviewing Concession Agreements by MDAs [January — 2024]. Other motions include convening high-level security stakeholder meetings, ensuring fair admission practices at the Nigerian Defence Academy, and addressing bandit attacks in border communities.
Dasuki co-motioned various causes, including Halting Social Media Handles as Identification by Banks [July — 2023], Implementing Police Service Commission Recommendations [February — 2024], Crafting a Clear Foreign Policy [November — 2023], and Ensuring a Living Wage for Workers [February — 2024].
As we celebrate his birthday today, we honour his legacy of impact and empowerment. His commitment to education, empowerment, and public service has left a lasting impression on the hearts of Nigerians. May the journey continue to inspire generations to come.
