Palestinian militant group Hamas has condemned Israel’s plan to relocate residents from Gaza City, describing it as a “new wave of genocide and displacement” targeting hundreds of thousands of people.
According to Hamas, Israel’s move to deploy tents and other shelter equipment in southern Gaza is a “blatant deception” meant to disguise “a brutal crime that the occupation forces prepare to execute.”

The Israeli military announced on Sunday that it was setting up tents and providing supplies to relocate civilians from combat zones in northern Gaza to the south, saying the plan is intended to “ensure their safety.”
Israel had earlier disclosed its intention to launch a fresh offensive to seize control of northern Gaza City, the enclave’s largest urban centre, sparking international concern over the humanitarian crisis in the war-torn region.
The ongoing war began on October 7, 2023, after Hamas launched an attack on southern Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages, according to Israeli authorities. About 20 of the 50 remaining hostages in Gaza are believed to still be alive.
In response, Israel’s military campaign has killed more than 61,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s health ministry, while leaving much of the enclave in ruins. The conflict has displaced most of Gaza’s 2.2 million residents and triggered a deepening hunger crisis.
