An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) attached to Ondo town in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo state, Mr Omiwoye Sunday was shot dead by some suspected gunmen.

It was gathered that Sunday was killed by the suspected gunmen while trying to mediate and prevent the bandit from attacking some people who were trail to the front of his house.

It was gathered that the hoodlums trail some people to the area along Agbala area behind Saint Monica’s Girl Grammar School, in Ondo, while the deceased who was trying to park his motorcycle met the hoodlums beating some people.

The late road safety officials challenged the gunmen who opened fire on him, killing him instantly and leaving him in the pool of his blood.

Narrating her ordeal, the wife of the deceased, Mrs Bunmi Sunday, said, “My husband and I went to see one of his friends that stays on the same street with us. Suddenly, some men ran towards where we were standing by the gate.”

“My husband was trying to park his motorcycle then. So, two gunmen came with bikes and started beating the boys that ran to us.

“My husband challenged the hoodlums, but they told him to stay back and ordered him to go into his house. I went in immediately, but my husband was still outside standing by his motorcycle.

“Later, I heard a gunshot. So, I ran out of the gate only to see my husband in the pool of his blood. The gunmen ran away with his phone and motorcycle key.”

She, however, said the corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital morgue in Ondo.

A resident of the area complained over the incessant attack and robbery in the area, saying residents of the area no longer sleep with their eyes closed.

He complained that the street is no longer safe for them, stressing that bloodthirsty men have been on a rampage in the area, especially towards this yuletide period.

He disclosed that some of the landlords have packed out of their houses due to incessant robbery attacks and other criminal acts committed by the unidentified gunmen, saying, “These hoodlums have been attacking innocent people in this place and carted away their valuable items.”

All efforts to speak with The State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) Funmilayo Odunlami, proved abortive as she did not pick her calls at the time of filing this report.
