The News Agency of Nigeria [NAN] reports that the volunteers, drawn from the Nigerian Defence Academy [NDA], were inaugurated on Friday in Kaduna.
Ike Onyechere, founding Chairman of the group, said their target was to promote ethics, integrity and best practices in the education sector.
“Exam ethics marshals are education stakeholders committed to code of ethical self-regulation and discipline in their duty post.
”The new marshals are inaugurated as pioneer members with responsibility for sustaining the campaign for policy of best practices and zero tolerance for exam malpractice in the academy.”
He said that the volunteers were empowered with relevant knowledge, capacity and skills to administer credible examinations based on global best practice.
Onyechere lamented that Nigeria has been producing incompetent leaders who were products of exam malpractice.
”Exam malpractice is feeding and weaning leaders of tomorrow on diets of fraud, dishonesty and corruption.
“It is also arming incompetent leaders, professionals and workers with undeserved certificates and licences to destroy lives through failed projects and services.
“The exam ethics campaign is an important complement of the war against corruption,” he added.
NAN reports that the Commandant of the NDA, Gen Mohammed Ibrahim was also enlisted as Exam Ethics Chief Marshal.
Onyechere said the award was in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the promotion of ethics, integrity and best practices in education.
The Acting Provost of the NDA, Yarwa Ahmed said improving standards in academics must be given top priority in the country.
He said examination was the key through which the capacity and capability of individuals were tested ahead of their engagement with the society.
Yarwa said the institution had since set up a standing committee to detect and punish any act of examination malpractice.
