The grassroots football in Imo State has received a boast with plans by a sports enthusiast to use his sports academy to discover untapped football talents in various communities.
Briefing the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Imo Chapter, Prince Chidiebere Onuoha vowed to harness the potentials of the rural players and groom them to international standards for maximum usage by football clubs outside Nigeria.
The facilitator of First Mahi Fc, Onuoha who lived in Liverpool, England, but hails from Agbaja in Nwangele Local Government Area of the state, disclosed this in Owerri shortly after the international football giant ended their 5-day hectic and well-attended players screening exercise.
He declared that the arm of the football academy “is to discover hidden football talents, groom them up to professional standard and market them to renowned football clubs abroad”.
The Facilitator also guaranteed the sustainability of the club, revealing that their major sponsorship comes from their companies in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and with funds from the resources they would source locally.
Earlier, Mr Chuks Dike, the Football Club Manager and Supervisor of the project, reiterated the commitment of the club in taking players abroad for greener pastures.
Dike further informed that the club was equally involved in underaged football team players like Under 15 and 17, and had advanced plans to play in 2021/2022 Nigeria National League(NNL).
He solicited for a collaborative partnership with Imo State sports journalists in their mission and vision of producing and marketing quality national and international players.
The Football administrator also decried the extent of politicising sports in Nigeria, especially football, and called for a rethink in the overall interest of the growth and development of the game.
