Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule on Monday presided over a meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders, with a view to reviewing matters arising within the party.
The meeting was held In Government House Lafia.
In an opening remark, Engineer Sule said the main purpose of the meeting was for the party to brief the stakeholders on the state of affairs.
While describing the meeting as apt, the Governor stated that, as a family, there was every need for the stakeholders to meet so that they can be briefed about what was happening within the party.
“The main purpose of the meeting is for the party to brief us on the state of affairs and I think it’s an excellent initiative that the party is able to take.
“It’s a family, and the family, from time to time, needs to brief itself about what is happening. Good or bad, so that we would be able to know what’s happening in order for us to have a sense of direction.
“That is why we are a family. There is no family that is trouble free, there is no family that won’t have one kind of misunderstanding or the other. It’s normal to have those, and it’s normal to scale through once you are having these kinds of issues,” he stated.
Engineer Sule used the opportunity to apologize on behalf of the party, to stakeholders of the party who were unable to attend the meeting mostly because they couldn’t get invitations early.
“Let me also sincerely apologize, on behalf of the party, for the fact that so many other people I was told who were supposed to be contacted far ahead of time that were not so properly contacted.
“I only got to know about this yesterday evening. I sincerely apologize. Please, send my apologies to all those who were not able to make it. Because it’s a party meeting, and every person who is important should have been contacted personally to be here,” he added.
The Governor equally used the opportunity to appreciate all those who were able to attend the meeting, particularly Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the National Chairman of the APC, who despite his tight schedule, was able to attend the meeting, as well as Senator Umaru Tanko Al-makura.
Addressing journalists shortly after the parley, state Chairman of the APC, Chief John Mamman, said the meeting of the caucus was one of the officially recognized meetings of the APC.
“We have invited this meeting to appreciate the efforts of our members commencing from the electioneering time to the election proper to swearing-in and other party activities.
“We also explained the state of affairs in connection to the inauguration and constitution of the leadership of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly. We have deliberated, and as a family, we all agree that since the matter is in court it’s only the court that can decide otherwise,” he said.
The APC state chairman disclosed that the meeting considered the unity of the party, with a view to bringing every member of the party onboard.
” It’s normal that in a family you can have people who are dissatisfied with the state of affairs but it does not exclude then from being members of the family. We are doing all we can to bring everyone onboard.
“As far as we are concerned, we don’t have much crisis in APC as it is. The issue has to do with the constitution of the leadership of the house. By God’s grace the matter will soon be over,” he stated.
The stakeholders meeting came barely two weeks after the leadership crisis of the Nasarawa State house of assembly where two speakers of the house emerged.
