Gombe govt imposes 24-hour curfew on some communities in Balanga LGA

Following renewed communal violence that erupted between Lunguda and Waja ethnic groups in Balanga Local Government Area, the Gombe State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on some communities in the area.

The affected communities are Nyuwar, Jessu, Heme, Yolde Gelentuku, Sikam, Wala-Lunguda and environs with immediate effect.

The Secretary to the State Government, Prof Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, who made the announcement, stated that the decision followed renewed violence that erupted in the communities earlier on Tuesday.

According to the SSG, a curfew becomes necessary in order to restore peace and order in the affected areas and save lives and properties.

The SSG further stated that security personnel have been deployed to restore normalcy while the curfew will subsist until further notice as contained in a statement by Ismaila Uba Misilli Director-General, ( Press Affairs)

It will be recalled that a few months ago, a violent clash between the Lunguda and Waja communities led to the loss of many lives while properties including houses and worship centres were destroyed.

The peace process was put in place by the State Commissioner through various meetings and consultations which had led to the return of normalcy and truce but the coming of the farming season sparked another round of violence over farmlands.

True! Consuming Rotten Tomatoes May Cause Liver Cancer

CLAIM: A Facebook user claims that the consumption of rotten tomatoes, popularly known as Esa in South-West Nigeria, can cause liver cancer.

VERDICT: The claim that the consumption of rotten tomatoes can cause liver cancer is true. The WHO noted that consuming mycotoxins found in rotten tomatoes can lead to long-term effects such as immune deficiency and cancer.

FULL STORY: A Facebook user, Adebisi Yusuff Adebayo, in a post, claimed that rotten tomatoes contain fungi which produce a toxin that may cause liver cancer.

According to the post, boiling and frying it does not help remove the fungi completely.
