Ganduje inspects hydro-power plant at Challawa Gorge Dam

Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, in his continued effort to see to the expansion of economic fortunes and self-sufficiency for individuals, together with the provision of healthy water supply, inspected a hydro-power plant project at Challawa Gorge Dam, in Karaye local government.

He hinted that “our hydropower projects are for Kano industries, street lights and clusters of individuals,” highlighting that “we are assuring our people that, we will make sure that we continue to make things work for our people.”

After being satisfied with the progress of the work, he disclosed that those handling the gigantic project assured him of the completion of the project by June next year.

The plant is a 2×3 megawatts capacity plant aimed at supplying electricity to Kano industries, street lights and for home consumption of some sort. It is the third hydropower plant project in the state, with Tiga hydro powerplant and that of Challawa hydropower plant.

According to a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Comrade Abba Anwar, a copy made available to pressmen on Sunday, Governor Ganduje said: “We have two such projects which we inherited. At Tiga Dama and Challawa Dam. And we have since vowed to complete them at the right time successfully.

“In fact for the Tiga Dam hydropower plant, we have reached up to 95 percent completion. We are commissioning the project this year In Sha Allah.

“The first problem we encountered was that of how to also continue using the dam for our farmers.

“But with some adjustments here and there, we are now ready to use the dam for the hydropower plant and for our farmers, to allow them to have dry season farming. Everything is designed for this. So all aspects are taken into consideration.”
