In furtherance of its vision to be world-class and Nigeria’s leading University recognised for its excellence in capacity-building and service delivery, the Federal University of Technology (FUTMinna) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Montana Technological University, Butte, Montana, USA.
The MoU which was signed last (on) Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at the VC’s conference room, main campus, Gidan Kwano aims to establish cooperative relations through mutual assistance in the areas of education, research and related areas.
Making remarks at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, FUT, Minna, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta expressed optimism that the outcome of the MoU would be beneficial to the system.
Kuta who assured that FUTMinna has the capacity and the enabling environment needed for the actualisation of the MoU stressed the need for stronger collaborations that would guarantee the availability of the facilities needed to drive the knowledge the University is endowed with.
Specifically, he emphasised that further collaboration is crucial to FUT Minna, especially in its determination to run a Mining Engineering Technology in the near future.
Highlighting the significance of the partnership, the Vice-Chancellor emphasised that the relationship between the two universities would come a long way in ensuring growth in the system. He assured of his management’s commitment to the terms of the MoU.
Speaking during the interactive session, the Provost and Executive Vice-Chancellor, Montana Technological University, USA, Prof. Nosa O. Egiebor said that his institution chose to partner with FUT, Minna because
the institution has the needed trustworthiness.
He explained further that as a Nigerian working in diaspora, the decision to facilitate the partnership between his university and FUTMinna was born out of his passion to contribute to not only his motherland but also the entire continent of Africa.
“My interest is to see to it, that FUT, Minna becomes one of the best universities in the country,” Egiebor added.
Earlier, the University’s Director of Collaboration, Affiliation and Linkages (DCAL), Prof.Israel Olayemi recalled previous fruitful engagements the university had with Egiebor while at the University of Mississippi and expressed confidence that the MoU would usher in a new vista of greater opportunities for both institutions.
The areas of collaboration according to him include activities or programmes offered at either institution that will contribute to fostering and developing cooperative relationships between them. Each institution
may provide the other institution opportunities for activities and programs, such as semiconductor training, faculty/student exchange, study abroad programs, dual degree programs, teaching, research and graduate student recruitment, that will foster and develop the collaborative relationship.
