FRSC reiterates commitment to ensuring safer roads

The Corps Marshal of FRSC, Dauda Ali Biu, has reiterated the agency’s dedication to serving humanity in line with ensuring safer roads for motorists.

He stated this during the induction ceremony of 200 Special Marshals in the Oyo State.

Ali Biu, represented by Pauline Olaye, Assistant Corp Marshal of the agency, emphasized that road safety is a collective responsibility and that all citizens must participate by sensitizing the public and adhering to road safety guidelines.

Ali Biu commended the integrity of the new special marshals, describing them as individuals who complement the work of road safety.

He stressed that their contributions are essential in achieving the agency’s strategic goal of reducing road traffic crises by 5%.

He noted that adherence to road safety guidelines would prevent arrests.

The induction of the new special marshals is expected to enhance the FRSC’s operations in the state and the region.

The corps marshal urged the inductees to carry out their duties with fairness, transparency, and a sense of responsibility.

Sector Commander, Joshua Adekanye, noted the importance of obeying traffic rules and urged road users to avoid reckless behaviors, especially during the ember months.

The event also featured a paper presentation titled ‘Volunteerism in Road Safety Management: Limits and Possibilities.’

The National Coordinator, Special Marshals, Dr John Ugbebor, delivered a presentation on the ethics and guidelines attached to being identified as a special marshal.

While charging the inductees on the need for selflessness and total service to road users, he, therefore, called for mutual respect from sister security agencies.

He encouraged all Special Marshals, including the new inductees, to remain dedicated to their roles in supporting road safety programs.

Ugbebor also explained the need for increased attention to road safety to address reckless behavior by drivers and road users.

Zonal Coordinator Special Marshals, Akogun Muyiwa Oyediji JP, spoke on the importance of the Special Marshals who he described as people with integrity. He described it as people using their time, talents and treasures for the good of society.

The induction workshop included special recognition of the Award for Excellence.

In another development, the Oyo State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr Joshua Adekanye, has advised motorists against excessive speeding that could lead to crashes, as well as adhering to road guidelines during the ‘ember’ months.

Adekanye said this during the 2023 sectoral workshop and induction of new special marshals of the corps, which held in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, on Thursday.

According to Adekanye, “what we are trying to confront right now to see how people can have a positive attitude towards driving towards you make making use of the road to reduce the mega is part of what we are doing now. Since that vision.

“Then apart from that, we are trying to heighten our enforcement, especially during this ‘ember’ period when the leading cause of crashes is overspeeding. I’m seizing this opportunity to advise our motorists not to speed especially during this period. They should plan their journey ahead.”
