The Bauchi State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has urged drivers, particularly commercial vehicle operators plying the busy Bauchi-Jos highway, to reduce their speed to prevent road crashes.
The Sector Commander, FRSC RS12.1, Bauchi State Command, CC Caleb Luka, made the appeal while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the 2026 International Customer Service Week celebration.
Luka said one of the major challenges he had observed since assuming office in Bauchi was the high rate of overspeeding among drivers, particularly those using the Bauchi-Jos highway.
“The challenges I’ve observed so far since I reported to Bauchi as Sector Commander is that drivers in Bauchi, especially the drivers driving along the Bauchi – Jos Road, are seriously overspeeding.”
He urged motorists to obey approved speed limits, noting that doing so would help reduce road crashes and fatalities.
“So, my appeal is that, please, we should stay away from that, drive according to the approved speed limits, that will reduce carnage on our roads. The best journey is to arrive at destinations safely, not so fast,” he said.
The sector commander also expressed concern over the driving habits of tipper truck operators within Bauchi metropolis, describing their conduct as careless and warning them to exercise greater caution.
“And the tipper truck drivers within the town are careless, careless in driving. So they should be cautious in driving within the town in order to avoid unnecessary crashes leading to death of innocent people who also have the right to use the roads,” he said.
Luka said traffic management in Bauchi State was challenging because of the volume of vehicles using its roads, noting that the state serves as a link to three subregions: the North-East, North-Central and North-West.

He, however, said the state’s road network provided an opportunity for motorists to adopt safer driving practices.
“But however, as enormous as it is, there is a very good road network that warrants a good driving culture in Bauchi State. So I will expect the drivers to take advantage of the good road network and the enlightenment to work in favor of the good driving environment that we have,” he said.
On the Customer Service Week celebration, Luka described it as an international occasion that allows the FRSC to engage with road users and strengthen relationships with stakeholders.
“It is an international occasion that gives an opportunity for the Corps to interact with our customers. It also gives an opportunity for the Corps to strengthen our relationship with our stakeholders and customers generally,” he said.
He added that the Bauchi State Sector Command had concluded its activities for the celebration after engaging with traffic stakeholders and identifying areas for improvement.
“We in Bauchi State Sector, as a Corps, we are not an exception, and we have just concluded ours now. We have interacted with the traffic stakeholders and have understood each other. We will serve better in the areas identified,” Luka said.
