A non-governmental organisation, FAJIM Medicare Foundation (FAJIMMF), has given 51 scholarship grants to undergraduates studying health-related courses in public universities.
The students received the cheques at a ceremony in Lagos to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the foundation.
The awardees are from the University of Lagos, Lagos State University College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Federal University of Technology, Minna and Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto.
The senator representing Ogun Central district, Senator Shuaib Salis; a member of the House of Representatives, Anthony Adepoju; Alhaji Adeniji Adeyemi of Starlink Global and Ideal Ltd; Deputy President of the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN), Alhaji Rafiu Ebiti; Hajyia Azeezah Raji and Chief Medical Director, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Professor Wasiu Adeyemo, joined the event via Zoom.
The FAJIMMF founder, Professor Fatimah AbdulKareem, described the event as a momentous occasion, as it celebrated the foundation’s commitment to improving healthcare in underserved communities and empowering aspiring healthcare professionals through its scholarship programme.
Professor AbdulKareem said the foundation had over the years conducted free medical screenings for 5,601 individuals and provided free treatment for 1,788 people.
She added that the foundation had offered 136 scholarships to deserving students.
The gesture, she said, was to shape the future of healthcare in Nigeria.
Professor AbdulKareem said all 51 awardees would also participate in the FAJIM Mentoring Programme throughout the duration of their studies.
