Former deputy speaker debunks Wike’s allegation against Amaechi’s wife

Former Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Leyii Kwanee has debunked the claim by the River State Governor Nyesom Wike that Judith Amaechi, wife of the immediate past Governor of the state and Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, forcefully collected between N2million and N3million, from local government chairmen, commissioners and from constituency projects of members of the state house of assembly to her pet project, the Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI).

In a press briefing in Port Harcourt to mark his return after a hiatus after the 2015 elections, Kwane denied knowledge of such transactions throughout his stay at the 7th Assembly 2007 to 2015, stressing that the funds meant for his constituency projects were fully disbursed for such purpose.

Victoria Nyeche, member represented Port Harcourt Constituency 1 in the 7th Assembly and still a member of this current 8th Assembly who entered midway into the briefing confirmed Kwanee’s claim that no such forceful deduction was made from her constituency project fund during the period stressing that the three projects that she nominated for her constituency were there for all to see.

“That allegation is false, fabricated and never happened. There was no such thing when I was a deputy speaker,” he said.

Kwanee, who said he was making a return to the APC after being on sabbatical from politics since he left office as deputy speaker of the House of Assembly in 2015, stated that he had to make a return and help to build the party ahead of the 2019 election.

According to him Rivers State deserves a better leader in 2019 and in future than what it has now. “Rivers state is at a critical state right now. Rivers state needs a thorough democrat. Rivers State needs a man of vision. Rivers State needs a man will continue the good work Rotimi Amaechi was doing in the state, building on that foundation and moving forward.

“I am not an apostle of or want to propagate upland or riverine politics. Rivers State needs a cool headed man that will be able to take us to the next level.”
