ROTARY Club of Ibadan Elebu Metropolis D9125 in conjunction with the Oyo State Fire Service on Wednesday sensitised staff of the Federal College of Agriculture (FCA), Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T) as well as Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology (FCAHPT) all in Ibadan, on how to be safety conscious and also what to do in case of fire outbreak.
Speaking during the programme held on the premises of the Federal College of Agriculture, Mr Ademola Adeduntan, of the Oyo State Fire Service said everyone should at every point in time guard against fire outbreak because no matter how small is the fire, it would surely cause destruction.
He said: “My advice for everyone here today and the general public is that we should always try as much as possible and make it a point of duty to prevent fire outbreak particularly those of who use domestic cooking gas.
“It is also important to emphasise that we should have a functional fire extinguisher in our homes so that in case of fire outbreak, there would have been an effort put in place to put out the fire before the arrival of fire service personnel if there would be the need to call on them.”
President of Rotary Club of Elebu Metropolis, Rotarian Adewale Raji, while speaking with the Nigerian Tribune noted that: “We discover that fire outbreak can occur anytime and anywhere and we also thought of the fact that many people have fire extinguishers in their cars and homes but do not even know how to use it.
“These are some of the reasons we decided to put together this sensitisation programme to teach our people how to use fire extinguishers in case there is a fire outbreak because if not put out on time it may lead to serious destruction and even loss of lives. And most importantly we stress the need for them to embrace a practice that would prevent fire at all times.”
The high point of the event was the practical demonstration of how to use fire extinguishers of which participants at the training took turns to demonstrate as taught by officers of the Oyo State Fire Service in attendance.
