A federal government delegation led by the Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami has paid a sympathy visit to Katsina State over the fire incident that destroyed hundreds of shops at the Central Market in Katsina on Monday.

The delegation’s first point of call was the Central Market where they met with the affected traders and expressed the government’s sympathy over the incident.

The delegation assured the traders of the government’s resolve to provide assistance to them, to enable them recover the losses they had incurred as a result of the fire outbreak.

The delegation was also at the palace of the Emir of Katsina, where the Attorney General expressed President Muhammadu Buhari’s sympathy to the traders as well as the Emirate, the government, and people of the state over the incident.

He announced that the President had given a directive to relief agencies in the country to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the level of damage wreaked by the fire and provide assistance to those affected.

He said the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development was included in the delegation to avail her a first-hand glimpse of the level of destruction in the wake of the fire incident, to put the ministry in a good position to provide assistance to the victims.

Malami said the federal government will also engage the Katsina government towards developing infrastructure and taking other measures to avert a recurrence of fire incidence of such magnitude.

In his remarks, the Emir, Alhaji AbdulMumini Kabir Usman thanked President Buhari for sending the delegation to condole with the people of the state and urged the federal government to provide urgent intervention to those affected.

While at the Government House in Katsina, Governor Aminu Bello Masari disclosed that a fact-finding team from the state’s Ministry of Commerce and the State’s Emergency Management Agency was already at the market to carry out an on-the-spot assessment of the quantum of losses incurred in the inferno.

He said officials will also take stock of the number of shops affected and the level of assistance that should be provided to the victims.

Masari expressed appreciation to the President for sending the high-powered delegation for the sympathy visit and pledged his government’s readiness to support the federal government efforts at rendering assistance to the traders affected by the calamity.

Members of the federal delegation include the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, and the Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika.

Others were the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Saadiya Faruk and the Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu.

The disclosure was made by the Railway District Manager of NRC, Mr Aliyu Mainasara, during the unveiling of the rail line services in Bauchi during which the RDM, management team and passengers were conveyed from the Bauchi station to Inkil Community and back to the main station in Bauchi. While speaking at the occasion, Aliyu Mainasara pointed out that the Services will run from Monday to Saturday three times in a day with a token of N200 per trip from Bauchi station to Inkil Community stressing that each trip will be accompanied by security personnel to protect passengers and their belongings. According to him, "The train has the capacity of conveying between 70 to 100 passengers with comforting facilities on each trip". The RDM however said that full services will commence on Monday, September 5, 2022 with daily and monthly schedules saying that the North-Eastern district had not run a single train in the last seven years due to challenges posed by insecurity and vandalization of its tracks . The RDM stressed that, "The initiative will accord the citizens and children to test the rail services because there are people who don't have experience of rail services. With this, the children from schools would go for an excursion from Bauchi station to Inkil Community that is five kilometers from Bauchi station". He then assured that, "By the end of this year, we will extend the services to Alkaleri local government area of the state up to Gombe state respectively" . He also said that Engineers in the District are working on the tracks for the expansion of the scope of services to the Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state saying that, “The moment we fixed the tracks up to Alkaleri, believe me, we will start to run our trains as well as Gombe in the District". The RDM then urged stakeholders to support the initiative of the North-Eastern District office of the Corporation with credible information to ensure effective surveillance and protection of the tracks., 1200 bags of garri, FCTA task force Abuja,FCTA sites s, tandard livestock marketFCTA ban on sales alcohol, FCTA inaugurates recovery committee, FCFCTA vows to stop intending, TA honours 115 staff, Miscreants are retaking Mpape, FCTA trains workforce, FCTA inaugurates 12-Man C'ttee , Mallam Abubakar IbrahimAbuja residents call for caution, FCTA plans big for education , FCT teachers call off strike, FCTA laments low turnout, resolves to address multiple taxation, distribution of 2020 staff promotion letters, FCTA raids illegal parks. loggerhead with Permanent Secretary, FG introduces new on-street, Industrial war looms in FCTA, 2021 mass administration medicine , FCTA to shut down Jabi mall, FCTA work plan, FCTA, public schools, Bwari Area Council, furniture ,FCTA bans #EndSARS protest, street demonstrations in Abuja, FCTA, Schools, third term, demolishes, illegal, building, Abuja, Gwagwalada flood victims, illegal felling, FCTA, Churches, COVID 19, FCTA, Dangote truck, Gudu, hard drug base, suspected leaders, destroy, Flooding Outlook: FCTA vows to demolish housing estates obstructing waterways, FCTA pays N300m, Kuje council Traditional ruler FCT begins mass treatment against neglected tropical diseases
