Federal Polytechnic Nekede selected as ICAN centre

The Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Imo State, has been selected as a centre for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

The confirmation was made at the conclusion of the verification and identification exercise carried out at the institution by a team of ICAN officials.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Institution, Mr Ever Bezze Nwosu, and made available to the Tribune Online in Owerri, on Wednesday.

The PRO said that the ICAN team led by Chief Ojo Akinnulire visited the school in continuation of the Memorandum of Understanding, (MoU), reached by both organisations to have the Federal Polytechnic as a centre where students who graduated from the institution would need not struggle to be chartered much like other institutions in the country.

The team leader said that what students need is where they could write a five-paper examination to become a chartered professional accountant instead of writing 15-paper examinations.

The five-man team before concluding their visitation, on Tuesday, expressed their excitement with what the Polytechnics had on the ground for the take-off of the programme.

The team, highly impressed with their visit, confirmed to the management of the Polytechnics their unanimous decision that the programme could take off in the Institution.

Addressing the visiting team, the Rector, Engr Michael Arimanwa, thanked the institute for its choice of the Polytechnics.

The head of the institution said that out of five tertiary institutions that were accredited two were Polytechnics while the other three were Universities.

The Rector expressed joy that the Federal Polytechnic was among the two Polytechnics selected by ICAN and the only institution from the South-East.

He thanked them for finding his institution worthy to be their host.

In a brief vote of thanks, the Polytechnic Chairman of the program and the emeritus Bursar of the institution, Chief Adolphus N.Obi, confirmed that ICAN wanted to use the Institution as a professional centre.

The former bursar assured the teaching and non-teaching staff that the programme would take off in one month time and it would be academic activities galore.
