Receiving the report of the Committee for the Creation of Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Ekiti, the State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has established an inter-ministerial committee to oversee the implementation of the process and facilitate an effective takeoff of the LCDAs.
While making the announcement today in Ado-Ekiti, the governor also reassured the people of Ekiti State of his administration’s commitment to ensuring that the existing relationship between government and our people is further deepened.
“This will as well as enhance our commitment to the rapid development of all our communities in line with this administration’s 5-pillar developmental agenda.
“Our continued quest to meet the yearnings of our people and desire to fulfil our electoral promises informed the decision to revisit the creation of Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) from the existing Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the State.
“To achieve this in concrete terms, I am today announcing the establishment of an Inter-Ministerial Committee to oversee the implementation of this process,” Fayemi said.

The governor, however, thanked the Chairperson and members of the LCDA creation Committee for selflessly serving the State in that capacity.
“I commend you for approaching the assignment with courage, impartiality and equanimity. May posterity be kind to you for your labour of love and show of commitment,” he said.

The committee’s terms of reference are to review the report of the LCDA Committee and propose an Appropriate Legal Framework for the establishment of Proposed LCDAs, a framework for the distribution of assets, liabilities and personnel between existing LGAs and the proposed LCDAs.
Other terms of reference include proposing a practical commencement plan including the date as well as required human and financial resources to support the commencement of LCDAs and also advice the State Government on any other matter that would facilitate the effective take-off and sustainability of the LCDAs.
The Committee has three months to submit its report.
