It is unfortunate that Nigerian leaders are acting out conspiratorial theory scripts ahead of 2023 election, an indication of the country’s bleak future by swearing oath of secrecy for staff in Aso Rock.
Failure of the party at the centre to tackle the myriad of problems plaguing the people that voted it into power in 2015 on this basis has led them into panic having perceived re-election failure.
The fear of election defeat is the beginning of wisdom for the All Progressives Congress (APC) but there would never be free, fair and acceptable election outcomes until selection of Independent National Election Commission umpires are independent of the ruling party.
The umpires must be suggested and picked based on their precedents, integrity by the collective involvement of the people’s representatives, devoid of interference by the political parties.
Be that as it may; why are the political leaders engrossed in the battle for 2023, rather than interfacing, headlong with the problems currently confronting the country like security challenges, unemployment, high cost of living, prohibitive costs of food stuffs and tension everywhere?
The government and its officials are employees of the people. The loopholes in the Nigerian Constitution call for restructuring and failure of the government to restructure for so many year have led to agitations for secession.
The northern region alone accounts for over three million internally displaced persons and about 10 million out of school children, If by tomorrow, the security and socioeconomic challenges are over, the region is already 40 years backward as lot of damage has been done to the people’s lives.
Again Nigeria’s external image is suffering another blow. Every Nigerian outside the country is viewed as a fraudster. Every Nigerian is a debtor, courtesy the debt profile hanging on the country’s neck.
The Nigeria Constitution is a reflective view of the perpetual rule of the oligarchy; this is why they vehemently resist constitutional amendments that permit egalitarianism and equal rights.
