Enugu, the Enugu State capital has surprisingly been normal and calm as Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of IPOB is being tried at the Federal High Court Abuja before Justice Binta Nyarko.
This is coming against the unsubstantiated insinuation that went almost viral, that a sit-at-home order had been issued in protest to Kanu’s arrest and retrial.
However, IPOB has not confirmed issuing such an order, all same, some shop owners and artisans have closed shop in the city as well as some private schools which sent back their pupils and students for unexplained reasons.
There has been no security beef up in the city and to buttress the calmness, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is away in Bauchi, attending a PDP meeting.
People were seen huddled in groups discussing the issue as they followed live streaming by BBC Igbo of events at the court, even as the foreign press were barred from covering the proceedings and event at the court premises.
Chukwuemeka Ezeife, former governor of Anambra State and the IPOB legal team were seen with other lawyers awaiting the beginning of proceedings.
DSS had reportedly nabbed 20 suspected IPOB supporters and two Americans who were accused of taking snapshots at the precincts of the court.
Reports to be confirmed say police had arrested some suspected IPOB members at Akinaukwa junction in Mgbowo of Awgu council area of Enugu State.
