AS the 2019 general election draws nearer, Nigerians have been advised not to yield to the intrigues of politicians in using them for thuggery and other social vices.
This call was made by Sheik Ahmed Gumi when he received the Presidential candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Engineer Yabagi Yusuf Sani at his residence in Kaduna at the weekend.
In a statement by the Director, Media and Publicity, YYSani Presidential Campaign Organisation, Mr Pam Ibrahim, a copy of which was made available to TribuneOnline in Abuja, the cleric described as worrisome, the attitude of some politicians and religious leaders whose utterances have always incited their followers, either negatively or positively.
The cleric was of the opinion that lack of education is one of the major causes of insecurity and underdevelopment in Nigeria, calling on Nigerians to hold politicians accountable for their campaign promises.
He urged President Muhammadu Buhari to address the issues of insecurity, particularly in the northeast where the Boko Haram still hold sway and, the pending issue of Shi’ite movement leader, Sheik El-Zakzaky to avoid further anxiety.

According to him, the APC administration should stop politicizing the Boko Haram menace and focus on addressing insecurity frontally.
Gumi appealed to politicians to exhibit a sense of pragmatism and imbibe the spirit of patience, sportsmanship and resilience in their hope for a better nation.
Earlier, the ADP Presidential candidate Engineer Sani expressed satisfaction for the role that the cleric has played over the years in inculcating morale virtues and credible leadership in Nigeria.
He said his intention to run for the office of the President of Nigeria is to correct the issues that have kept the country away from developing economically and socially.
Sani lamented a situation where other countries who some years back were behind Nigeria in terms of development, today are ahead of our nation technologically.
He solicited for the support of the cleric as the ADP, he said, is poised to take over the Presidential Villa on 29th May 2019.
In his solidarity message, the Vice Presidential Candidate, Prince Martin Kunle Olateru-Olagbegi extolled the leadership virtue of Sheik Gumi and expressed the hope that the cleric will continue to support the party towards the forthcoming general election.
The visit was accompanied by some officials including the Party’s National Woman Leader, Hajiya Amina Dangaje, Deputy National Treasurer, Arc. Thomas Gana, National Vice Chairman South East, Hon. Chima Chukwudi and the Kaduna State Executive among others.
