Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi
The Ekiti Government on Tuesday advised its students and indigenes to enrol in the state-owned technical colleges for them to become employers of labour in the near future.
Mr Kayode Babade, the chairman of the state’s Board of Technical Education, said this on Tuesday in Ijero-Ekiti.
He spoke during sensitisation and career talk to prospective students of the Government Technical College in Ijero-Ekiti.
Babade said that the board had been on an advocacy visit to schools, the traditional ruler of Ijero-Ekiti, indigenes and other important personalities in the town.
He said that the advocacy visit was to stress the importance of technical education to national development.
The chairman advised the students to change their negative perspective about technical colleges for the purpose of national development and to create employment opportunities for them.
He explained that technical colleges were not for drop-out students.
He said they were for sound and intelligent students who are determined to become employers of labour and the future of the nation.
Babade also charged the prospective candidates to be hardworking and ensure that they end up successfully during and after their studies at the college.
He commended the Ijero Development Association for purchasing the school’s forms for the indigenes of the town.
He also praised them for sensitising the indigenes on the need to enrol in the college instead of indulging in unproductive activities.
Babade noted that in 2018, 262 forms were sold by the board but in 2019 and before the conduct of the entrance examination; the school had sold 1,100 forms.
He said that he was happy that the public was aware that technical college was the way out of youth unemployment.
The Owa Ajero of Ijero-Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Adewole, congratulated the students for being part of the school’s success story.
Also, the Chairman of Ijero Development Association, Mr Niyi Owoyomi, and the Chairman of Education Sub-Committee, Mr Akin Alufa, congratulated the students.
They said that the students should embrace technical education which they described as the bedrock of any country’s development.
